Google Sitemaps is a new way for you to help improve your coverage in the Google index. It's a collaborative crawling system that enables you to communicate directly with Google to keep them informed of all your web pages, and when you make changes to these pages. Google Sitemaps promises better crawl coverage to help people find more of your web pages, fresher search results, and a smarter crawl because you can provide specific information about all your web pages, such as when a page was last modified or how frequently a page changes.

The E. W. Scripps Co. said on Monday it planned to buy Shopzilla to capitalize on the growing specialized Internet search business.
Scripps said it would pay $525 million in cash for 100 percent of Shopzilla, a comparison shopping search engine.
Shopzilla aggregates and organizes information on more than 30 million products from 55,000 retailers worldwide. Shopzilla will become a stand-alone operating unit of Scripps, and its financial results will be reported as a separate division of the company.

Google's Secret Lab, Shhh!
@@@@@@@@@
It's one of Google's best kept secrets. A lab of real humans from all over the world (China to The Netherlands, to Korea to Brasil) These testers are paid to check search results of Google every day. Most of the employees, called international agents by Google, were recruited through universities all over the world. The aim is to avoid spam, to get the right sites at the top of the listing and to test new features, not shown to the public yet.
I call it Google's Secret Evaluation Lab, but the real title is less adventurous; 'Rater Hub Google'.
Here's one way how Google recruits testers:
"QUALITY RATER - (SPANISH, DUTCH, ITALIAN, FRENCH) This is a temporary role offered through Kelly Services. Google Inc. is recruiting part-time, temporary, home-based workers to help with work on a search quality evaluation on a project basis. You would work at your own pace, and the time and length of any particular work session would be up to you. Candidates will evaluate search results and rate their relevance. Thus, all candidates must be web-savvy and analytical, have excellent web research skills and a broad range of interests...."

Prediction: Publishers Will Launch Premium RSS Feeds
@@@@@@@@@
Steve Outing is saying there's a raging debate about ads in RSS feeds as they become more popular. He sees a hybrid model for media companies: a full-content feed that includes ads plus an abbreviated headline-only or headline+blurb feed with no ads.
I agree with Steve but there's one tweak I want to add. I think publishers should make the full text of their complete print and online content available as RSS feeds to paying subscribers. This includes folks who use Zinio and the like. Also, I offer this prediction: this year both publishers and high-traffic bloggers/citizen journalists will offer premium content available only via a full-text RSS feed.

SEO Tip of the Week
@@@@@@@@@
http://www.5minutesite.com/local_keywords.php
A great time-saving tool for generating City, State, and/or Zip plus Key Word phrases for localized search optimization. If you have ever tried to do this, you know it can be a tedious job.
Here is a practical example. Let's say you're running an affiliate program called DentalPlans. Affiliates that have just one page about the kw "dental plans" probably will be buried in the SERPs. But if you could publish a bunch of pages with different City/State/Key Word combos then you would have more chances of higher rankings and being found when consumers looking for a "Dentist in Costa Mesa Ca" or a "Dentist Newport Beach Ca." A smart way to develop deeper localized search phrases that includes smaller suburbs.
* Consider a paid listing for your company name or brand. Although this does not affect the natural' listings it helps to add to your total domination of your search engine space.
