Katrina Missing Persons Meta Search Tools from Lycos and Yahoo
@@@@@@@@@
We send along our deepest hopes and prayers to those whose lives have been impacted by the natural disaster that struck the southeastern coast of the United States.
Lycos has responded to the search for missing persons with a new Katrina Search Meta service. In one go, it checks listings from more than 35 missing person sites that have sprung up since the storm. Sources of these listings are listed in the right-hand navigation. You can also add a site here.

Yahoo also has released a meta search tool that simultaneously searches for names across a number of missing person boards from various sites including Yahoo Groups, NOLA.com, and MSNBC.

Happy Birthday Google
@@@@@@@@@
My, oh my, how time flies! Google is seven years old this week! And having lit the candles, birthday wishes are ablaze for the two "Google Guys" (Sergey Brin and Larry Page). The duo have debuted on Vanity Fair's annual list of business "powerbrokers" in the number one spot pushing Wal-Mart CEO, Lee Scott, from the throne.
If you feel like reminiscing about the early days of Google with a surf down memory lane, here's a compilation that Gary Price put together a few years ago that has links to plenty of "early" Google resources, pages, and papers.

Online Advertisers Turning to Pay-per-Call
@@@@@@@@@
Personal-injury lawyer Frank Frasier wants the world to know about his business but didn't think much of search-based Internet advertising. Potential clients wouldn't learn much about him through it, he figured, and he really can't tell if they have a case without speaking with them directly.
Frasier's opinion of Internet search advertising changed recently with the recent arrival of pay-per-call. This technique prompts Web surfers looking for lawyers in his hometown of Tulsa, to pick up the phone instead of clicking an ad or sending e-mail.
"We've gotten about a dozen calls and half turned into cases," Frasier said. "I'm a believer. It fits my needs."
Pay-per-call could be especially powerful for local businesses that have ignored the Internet, including those that don't even have a Web site, its advocates say. In pay-per-call, keywords also are auctioned. But instead of a link to click, the ad directs the user to the telephone. In one version, the user calls a special number that is forwarded to the advertiser's regular phone. In another, users type in their phone numbers and get a return call from the merchant. Either way, the advertiser is billed for the referral.
America Online Inc. and smaller Web portals have partnered with a pay-per-call pioneer called Ingenio Inc., whose investors include eBay Inc. and Microsoft Corp. Ingenio's chief marketing officer, Marc Barach, said the approach is ideal for small service businesses florists, lawyers, contractors whose customers ask lots of questions.

Hear Ye And Ye Shall Find via Audio Search
@@@@@@@@@
With so many music files, news clips, speeches, sound effects and other audio files on the Internet, finding the ones you're looking for can get tricky. Fortunately, search sites have begun indexing audio files, much as they do Web sites, to make it easier to find precisely what you want to hear.
Yahoo! (audio.search.yahoo.com) is the latest, and perhaps the largest, site to offer audio searches. With it, you can locate specific music, sound effects and other audio, such as speeches and podcasts or audio blogs.
Yahoo!'s audio search works similarly to its Web search. Simply type your search term and hit Enter. You get a list ofresults, which may be overwhelming. That's where the site's additional search options come in handy. Using them, you can limit the results to music or other files. You can also specify if the search term is an artist, album or song title. For further refined results, click the More Options button.
Yahoo! lists songs available for a fee from numerous musicdownload sites, as well as free audio files that are posted legally.
GoFish (www.gofish.com) helps you search for songs, podcasts and audiobooks. You can do a general search or limit your search to one type of file. Simply enter your search phrase and click GoFish.
Additionally, GoFish will search song lyrics. If you know a few words from the song, use them in your search.

New MSN Operators [Feed:Subject] and [Feed: URL]
@@@@@@@@@
Looking for Websites that offer an RSS Newsfeed, including embedded Podcasts in the mix? MSN Search has introduced a novel way to satisfy your hunger for Feeds with two new search "operators." Type [feed:subject] and you will be served results of Webpages that contain a feed for the subject you had in mind. To find out if a particular site offers a feed, type [feed:www.site.com] and feast your eyes. (Note: Brackets indicate exact match search, do not include the [ ] 's in your search string).

SEO Tip of the Week "Add + URL"
@@@@@@@@@
A quick tip for those who are stuck finding a directory or website that is relevant to your keyword, to list your website on:
In Google, search:
[intitle:add+url] OR [intitle:submit+your+site] OR [intitle:add+your+site "keyword"]
That will bring you to the very page where you can submit a URL for directory inclusion.
