Google Rolls Out Blog Search Engine
@@@@@@@@@
The prolific Google has just added a blog search engine to its amazing suite of search products. The new Blog Search interface is, like Google itself, a no-frills search box. But the advanced search page opens up a few more options, including searching by author, post title, blog title or post date.
There are several ways to get to Blog Search, beyond just memorizing the google.com/blogsearch URL. You can go to blogsearch.google.com (a Google-style interface), visit search.blogger.com (a Blogger-style interface), use the Blogger Dashboard or use the Navbar on any Blog*Spot blog. You can also subscribe to search results, via a link at the bottom of the SERP page.
To find your way around the blogosphere with Google BlogSearch, the following operators may help:
* blogurl: Finds words in the blog's URL. So if you wanted to search for blog posts by anyone from About.com, you would use blogurl:about.com.
* inposttitle: Finds words in the post's title. You would type in inposttitle:"family guy" and get lots of posts about the "Family Guy".
* inpostauthor: This would return specific people's names. For example, you could do inpostauthor:smith would return results written by people with the name Smith.
* inblogtitle: Self-explanatory.

Mobile Search Growing in Popularity
@@@@@@@@@
How's search doing as a mobile internet activity? The Utilitarian Life of the Mobile Internet, a report at ClickZ, cites stats saying it's the third ranked category in the US behind email (4.8 percent of mobile users) and weather (3.9 percent). Search is done by 2.9 percent of the mobile audience. It's plain to see, all categories have a relatively small number of the 191 million estimated mobile internet users doing anything -- but when they do go online while on the move, search is strong.
Who is the most likely category of users to do mobile search? Those aged 35-41 (32 percent). OK, that's the most likely category to do email and weather, as well, suggesting this segment has got tech savvy plus the money to spend on devices and access. But interestingly, search is the most likely mobile activity by 18-24 years olds over the others, including email and weather.
The most popular mobile search site? Google, with 2.1 percent of the mobile internet audience reach is first. Yahoo comes next at 1.4 percent. But Yahoo Mail is the second most popular destination overall at 2.4 percent, and Yahoo Driving Directions makes the list with 1 percent reach.
In related headlines, Yahoo has just released a mobile version of Yahoo Shopping. The on-the-go, e-commerce search tool will work on mobile phones/devices with a WAP 2.0 enabled browser that has access to any of the following networks: CingularOrange, CingularBlue (formerly AT&T Wireless), Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, or TMobile.

MSN AdCenter Impressing Beta Testers
@@@@@@@@@
What do people think of MSN AdCenter (currently in testing)?
Here are some of the latest comments culled from WebmasterWorld.
* Clean & easy to understand user interface; similar to Google AdWords.
* Ability to manage several campaigns under one username, like the Google Client Center.
* Illuminating metrics; View overall demand for each keyword/keyphrase in charts browkn down by traffic trends (time), gender trends (M/F), and geographic stats (LA, San Diego, Paris, etc).'
* Budget estimator (Price estimator) can be better but it is usable.
* Report bonanza. Create reports on all types of data including dates, performance, targeting, and queries by time ranges (AM/PM style).
* Time based ad delivery options: A nice option. Serve this ad for the following keywords in the 'morning' only please.'
* Small set up fee, currently $5 service, then PPC fees onward.
* CPC minimum is purportedly $0.10 but for some reasons (at least for the time being) $0.05 bids can get through.
* Bidding is more novel, based on keyword phrase and the ad. You basically set a price by keyword phrase and ad. In addition, you can opt to increase your bid to reach a targeted audience, through 'targeted bidding,' more often.
* Targeted bidding lets you target based on (a.) Users in a specific geographic location (b.) Users searching on specific days of the week or during a specific part of the day, or (c.) Users of a specific gender or age. MSN AdCenter uses profile data from Experian where known.
In related news, MSN's Developer Center is now live. The center contains infomation, developer toolkits, and links to forums for MSN Search, MSN Messenger, MSN Virtual Earth, MSN Search Toolbar with Windows Desktop Search, and "Extending" Start.com with "Gadgets." You'll also find a link to the MapPoint Developer Center.
