Martha Stewart Launches Ad Network. Now It's Your Turn!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If 2007 was the year for launching your own social network, 2008 will be the year for launching your own ad network. Watch for a startup or two to come along and make it easy for you to do just that.
Martha Stewart is the latest to start her own ad network. It capitalizes on lifestyle and cooking sites that fit the Martha Stewart brand.
The network is called Martha's Circle, and is forecast to generate around 20 million ad views a month. Sites belonging to the network include: Hostess with the Mostess, Charles and Hudson, 101 Cookbooks and Style Me Pretty. Advertisers include Ace Hardware, Bank of America, and Macy's.
The advantage of working with an ad network is that you can monetize your bog or site with ads that match your content. It's a win for ad networks as they can easily target a broad network of sites and blogs and work with one or a few networks rather than individual sites.
Fox Interactive Media is also getting ready to introduce an online advertising network across its websites which include several popular sites such as MySpace, Photobucket and IGN. The network will be ready within the first half of 2008, according to a report in DirectTraffic Media.
There is also a possibility that the offerings may be extended to sell space on third-party sites beyond News Corp. properties. Other Fox network sites include The New York Post, AmericanIdol.com, FoxSports.com and Rotten Tomatoes. Speaking of Fox, The Wall Street Journal's Web site is likely to become a free, ad-driven portal, after News Corp takes ownership of Dow Jones & Co., according to Chairman Rupert Murdoch. The move could boost the number of users from the current 1 million to as many as 10 million to 15 million, who would draw "large numbers" of new advertisers, he told shareholders in Adelaide, Australia.

Online Ad Revenues Growing Greener!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Even though it is late fall, the revenue orchards are in full bloom and a deep hue of green. Online ad revenues in Q3 of this year have increased by over 25% to an industry astounding $5.2 billion according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau.
This is an increase of $1.1 billion over the third quarter last year, and revenues were almost a full 3% higher than second quarter this year. The stack up of quarterly revenue has shown lofty goals being met and surpassed with $4.9 billion in Q1, $5.1 billion in Q2 and $5.2 billion in Q3 for a current collective total of $15.2 billion.
Last year at this time the total of ad revenues was $12.1 billion, this means that revenue has increased by 26% according to the IAB.

Landing Page Report & White Paper Previews: Free First Looks
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Need help with your landing pages? A new report by Marketing Sherpa ($497) reveals some telling statistics about why there's much room for improvement. Before you buy, a free 19-page PDF preview includes four practical data charts and five sample landing page images. The Table of Contents reveals what you will get for the full purchase price.
The painful truth is that only 39% of marketers currently customize their landing page templates to correlate with a specific marketing offer. (And only 50% of agencies do!) By custom pages, we mean pages that do NOT share the same navigation and template style as the rest of the site. No wonder average landing page conversions are stuck in the single digits. Your ad may have convinced browsers to click. But your landing page has to convince them to stick around for at least a minute or two and possibly (to quote the Sherpas) "do a bunch of unpleasant stuff" like reading (90%), typing their name and address, or, god for bid, pay for something.
Here is a link to the PDF presentation: http://www.marketingsherpa.com/exs/LPHExcerpt_9418.pdf
MoreVisibility has also put out a White Paper titled "The Evolution of Landing Pages: How Quality Score has Changed Marketing." You can download it here: http://www.morevisibility.com/whitepaper/evolution-of-landing-pages.pdf

GoodSearch.com - You Search, They Give
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
'Tis the season when giving is as good as getting.
GoodSearch is a search engine powered by Yahoo! that donates half of its advertising dollars to charities specified by its end users.
According to the site, 47,000+ nonprofits are now on-board and 100 more are joining daily! Does it work? The ASPCA has earned a purported $7.600. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has earned $3,420. Many more good causes are on the tote board.
GoodSearch Shopping lets you enter your favorite charity before you search and participating retailers will donate a portion of the sale to the GoodSearch charity of your choice.

Ten Places to Find Free Images Online and Make Your Content More Impressionable
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Loren Baker reminds us that when it comes to digital images the best things for your Website could be virtually free!
Public Domain images are free to use however you want. For instance, pictures taken when working for the U.S. government or any pictures that you can download from a government website are automatically public domain. Rights protected images are bought for a certain length of time for a certain project. These images must be negotiated beforehand with the photographer or the stock image agency to arrange exclusive rights to the image during the arranged time period. While good for big businesses, these are not very effective for website designs. Royalty free images can also be purchased. After the one time fee, you can use the image however you would like. However, other websites can also purchase the same image.
The new class of images is called MicroStock and it comes from consumer, pro-sumers (and occasionally top pro shooters as well who are having a surplus sale). All have discovered a bustling after-market for great photos online, and they are offered for a fraction of the price of conventional stock agencies. Getty Images' IStock Photo and Corbis Images' SnapVillage are two spin-offs that offer a wide selection of good quality micro-stock choices.
* Bigfoto.com offers pictures from around the world, including America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Pacific. Subcategories allow you to choose from pictures in a certain theme.
* Fotogenika.net has photos for free download for personal, educational, and nonprofit use. However, you cannot use them commercially, sell them, or claim authorship. Categories include architecture, animals, people, and textures.
* FreeDigitalPhotos.net has over 2000 free images that you can use in commercial and noncommercial work. You are not allowed to sell, redistribute, or claim these images as your own. You can browse by category or search for exactly what you need.
* FreePhotosBank.com allows users to have non-exclusive, non-transferable license to images. You can search for photos, see which photos are the most popular, and which ones have the highest ratings or the most downloads.
* FreeMediaGoo.com has a large collection of images, audio, textures, and other visual mediums that you can use for free with some restrictions. You do not even have to credit the images. The site also features some standout digital images if you are looking for something different.
* MorgueFile.com offers stock photographs in high resolution quality. With over 55,000 images, divided into several categories, they are sure to have something you can use. The thumbnails are small, but your search results display quickly, and the photos are of top quality.
* PhotoRogue.com offers a different concept. If you cannot find what you need, you can email a request. The service is free and uses volunteer photographers. If you like, you can also sign up for an RSS feed that will let you know when new images become available.
* SXC.hu offers high quality images taken around the world by amateur photographers. If you have an interest in photography, you can even submit your own pictures. There are various searching options and over 100,000 images. The photographers establish the terms, so read the fine print, but most pictures can be reused immediately.
* Picsearch.com is another option for those who are not sure exactly what they are seeking. Picseach is a search engine that crawls the web and indexes images. However, make sure that you see the site’Äôs licensing terms or contact the copyright holder before you download pictures. You can edit your search by animation, color, or size to find exactly what you need.

Tracking Nearly Everything On Google
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We know that Google can track search terms, links, trends, and Website locations. But did you know you can use the engine to track most of the other codes in your life?
For instance, when you send a package to someone, you receive a tracking number. Did you know you can enter that number on Google.com for items shipped via UPS, FedEx, or the US Postal Service. Heck, if you don't know what company your package was shipped with, but have the tracking number, you can connect with the service that has it in transit? Here are other numbers that can be tracked:
VIN numbers: Enter a Vehicle Identification Number (or VIN) from any vehicle, and you will find information about it.
Area Codes: Have a number come up on your CallerID you don’Äôt recognize, and wonder where the heck it is from? Simply type the area code into Google. The first result that comes up is for mapping the area of the country that area code is in. The next several results will tell you more detailed information about that area.
UPC Codes: Entering a Universal Product Code (or UPC) into Google can bring up loads of information on the product, including possible recalls and what to do about them.
